Amitabh Bachchan Hails Mumbai's Coastal Road Tunnel as a Marvel

Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan recently took to social media to share his experience of using the newly-inaugurated Coastal Road Tunnel in Mumbai. The tunnel, which is part of the Coastal Road project connecting Marine Drive to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, has garnered praise for its efficiency in reducing travel time.

Bachchan, in his post, referred to the tunnel as “a marvel” as it significantly cuts down travel time between the two prominent points in Mumbai. The Coastal Road, spanning 10.8 kilometers and featuring a two-kilometer-long tunnel between Priyadarshini Park and Marine Drive, is a significant infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity and easing traffic congestion in the city.

The first phase of the Coastal Road project was inaugurated on March 11 by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar. The ambitious project, which began on October 13, 2018, is estimated to cost ₹12,721 crore.

The video shared by Bachchan showcasing his journey through the tunnel quickly gained traction, amassing over 50,000 views within minutes. Users flooded the post with comments, expressing admiration for Mumbai’s modern roadways and thanking the Maharashtra government and Minister Nitin Gadkari for their efforts in improving infrastructure.

Prior to the Coastal Road, the commute from Worli to Marine Drive could take up to 40-50 minutes during peak hours. However, with the introduction of the Coastal Road, the travel time has been reduced to less than 10 minutes for the nearly 10-kilometer stretch, providing commuters with a faster and smoother journey.

Authorities have also implemented speed limits on the Coastal Road, ensuring safe travel for vehicles. The speed limit is set at 80 kilometers per hour on straight stretches, reduced to 60 kmph inside the tunnel and at turning points, with entry/exit points restricted to 40 kmph for vehicles.
