“Suriya Battles His Killer Instincts in Retro Trailer: Action, Romance, and Laughter Await!”

Suriya's "Retro" Trailer Drops: A Glimpse into a Wacky Gangster Drama Filled with Action, Romance, and Comedy

Suriya is back with a bang! The trailer for his much-awaited film, Retro, has just dropped, and it’s a delightful blend of action, romance, and comedy. Directed by Kartik Subbaraj, Retro promises to be a masala entertainer that will keep fans on the edge of their seats.

The three-minute trailer reveals Suriya’s character as a local gangster who vows to leave his violent ways behind for the woman he loves, played by Pooja Hegde. However, his instincts seem to be at odds with his new promise, as he continues to find himself in situations where violence is his go-to solution. The trailer features Suriya in an intense yet humorous role, as he fights off enemies, smashes walls in frustration, and indulges in some rough and tumble action. There are also moments of romance and lighthearted comedy, offering a perfect balance to the gritty gangster drama.

The trailer also introduces a strong supporting cast, including Joju George, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, and Nasser, who play other key roles in the film. With its colourful setting and equally vibrant costumes, Retro seems to promise a visually rich cinematic experience.

Fans were quick to express their excitement online, with one fan commenting, “Karthik Subbaraj – Suriya combo 🥵🔥🔥,” while another said, “It looks like a special film for Suriya fans ❤❤ love you Suriya.” A third fan commented, “Suriya is back with a bang.”

Retro is produced by Suriya and his wife Jyothika’s production banner, 2D Entertainment, in collaboration with Stone Bench Films. The film, with the tagline “Love, Laughter, and War,” has music composed by Santhosh Narayanan and features cinematography by Shreyaas Krishna. Editing is handled by Shafique Mohamed Ali.

Set to hit theatres on May 1, 2025, Retro follows Suriya’s recent appearance in Kanguva, where he played the role of a warrior named Kanguva. Although Kanguva didn’t perform well at the box office, Retro seems to be gearing up for a much-anticipated return to the big screen for the versatile actor.
