Hrithik Roshan’s sister, Sunaina Roshan, recently opened up about her battle with alcoholism, revealing how it led to one of the darkest phases of her life. In a candid interview with Siddharth Kanan, she recalled how her family took away her credit cards as she struggled with addiction and how she checked herself into a strict rehab facility to recover.
Sunaina Roshan’s Fight Against Alcoholism
Sunaina shared that her dependence on alcohol grew when she was going through a difficult emotional phase. “It was tough. Alcoholism is when you don’t have control over your drinking. I was very emotionally vulnerable, and to numb my emotions, I started drinking. I think it was the worst phase of my life. I had fallen off beds and injured myself. It’s a very vicious cycle to be in,” she said.
She further revealed that during this time, she was denied access to money, with her credit cards being taken away by her family. “For a couple of months, I wasn’t given any money, my credit cards were taken away, and it was a very unpleasant situation for me to be in,” she recalled.
Her Experience in a Strict Rehab
Sunaina shared that she took the initiative to seek help, asking her parents to find a good rehabilitation center for her recovery. Before they could begin searching, she found one herself and checked in.
Describing her time in rehab, she said, “It’s a 28-day course, and it’s not like a normal rehab. Basically, any kind of addiction is treated there. It was a 28-day programme where 5-6 counsellors were grilling you. It was worse than normal rehab. I don’t know what normal rehab is like, but this was in one room, for 89 hours. They were just grilling you.”
She further revealed that while in rehab, she had no access to her phone and was prohibited from having any addictive substances, including sugar and perfumes.
Overcoming Challenges Post-Rehab
After completing her rehab program, Sunaina faced another emotional challenge when she learned about her father Rakesh Roshan’s cancer diagnosis. She recalled that the news left her unable to sleep, and she ended up calling her doctors from a washroom in distress.
Sunaina’s Career and Hrithik’s Upcoming Film
Sunaina Roshan began her career as a producer with the film Krazzy 4 and later backed Kites, starring her brother Hrithik Roshan. However, Kites failed to perform at the box office.
Meanwhile, Hrithik Roshan is gearing up for his next project, War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji. The film will also feature Kiara Advani and Jr NTR, who is set to play the antagonist. Part of the YRF Spy Universe, War 2 is yet to receive an official release date.
