The highly anticipated film Kalki 2898 AD, starring Prabhas, has taken the box office by storm, surpassing the ₹600 crore mark globally within its first week of release, according to Sacnilk. This dystopian epic, directed by Nag Ashwin, features a star-studded cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani.
In India, Kalki 2898 AD kicked off its box office journey with a substantial ₹95.3 crore nett. By the seventh day, it added another ₹23.2 crore to its earnings, despite a significant 75 percent drop in collections since its release. Remarkably, the drop in collections from the sixth to the seventh day was only 14.23 percent, bringing its nett collection to ₹393.4 crore as per Sacnilk.
The Telugu version of the film recorded an overall occupancy of 31.38 percent on its seventh day. Released in multiple languages including Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, English, and Malayalam, Kalki 2898 AD grossed ₹202.8 crore in its first week in India for the Telugu version, while the Hindi version earned ₹152.5 crore. This makes it the second-highest-grossing Hindi film of the year, trailing only behind Fighter, which garnered ₹199.45 crore, as reported by Bollywood Hungama. The film has also surpassed Ajay Devgn’s Shaitaan, which earned ₹149.49 crore nett.
Despite a challenging year for Hindi films at the box office in 2024, Kalki 2898 AD has the potential to become the highest-grossing Hindi film of the year during its theatrical run. Globally, it has emerged as the most successful Indian film of 2024. Vyjayanthi Movies reported global earnings of ₹610 crore six days into its release.
While it remains to be seen if Kalki 2898 AD will join the ₹1000 crore club alongside blockbusters like Dangal (₹2070 crore), Baahubali 2 (₹1788 crore), RRR (₹1230 crore), KGF Chapter 2 (₹1215 crore), Jawan (₹1160 crore), and Pathaan (₹1055 crore), it is on track to exceed the global collections of Shankar’s 2.0 (₹744.78 crore) and Prabhas’ Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire (approximately ₹600 crore) after its seventh day.
