In exciting news for superhero enthusiasts, Nia DaCosta’s highly anticipated all-women superhero film, “The Marvels,” is set to make its digital debut on Disney+ Hotstar on February 9. Starring powerhouse performers Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel, and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, the film promises a thrilling cinematic experience.
“The Marvels” initially hit theaters in November of last year, earning considerable attention for its unique narrative featuring a trio of formidable female superheroes. The ensemble cast also includes Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury, Zawe Ashton, Gary Lewis, Park Seo-joon, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, and Saagar Shaikh. Despite its stellar cast and Marvel Studios’ backing, the film faced a challenging start at the box office, marking the lowest opening in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a North American day-one earning of USD 46.1 million.
The storyline revolves around the lives of Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau becoming intertwined as they embark on an interplanetary mission to save the cosmos. The movie’s emphasis on teamwork and sisterhood, set against the backdrop of space, promises an engaging and fun-filled superhero adventure.
Iman Vellani, who portrays Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, shared her perspective on the film’s box office performance. The Canadian actor, unfazed by the numbers, expressed her gratitude for the positive feedback and reviews from audiences who enjoyed the movie. Referencing Bob Iger, CEO of Marvel Studios’ parent company Disney, Vellani emphasized her focus on celebrating the finished product rather than box office figures.
“The box office has nothing to do with me. I’m happy with the finished product, and the people that I care about enjoyed the film. It’s genuinely a good time watching this movie, and that’s all we can ask for with these films. It has superheroes, it takes place in space, it’s not that deep, and it’s about teamwork and sisterhood. It’s a fun movie, and I’m just so happy that I can share it with people,” Vellani stated in an interview with Yahoo Entertainment.
As “The Marvels” prepares to land on Disney+ Hotstar, fans can look forward to experiencing the cosmic adventures of these dynamic superheroines from the comfort of their homes, starting February 9.
