In the competitive world of K-dramas, two shows have emerged as frontrunners this week, each breaking their own records and making waves in the entertainment industry.

Love Scout starring Han Ji Min and Lee Joon Hyuk has reached new heights in its viewership ratings. The sweet workplace romance on SBS TV reached an impressive 11% nationwide viewership for its Episode 7 on January 24, setting a new record for the series. This achievement marks the first time a Friday episode of the drama surpassed the 10% mark, an impressive feat for a timeslot typically known for lower ratings. Prior to this, the drama had already garnered personal all-time high ratings of 11.4% with its January 18 Saturday episode.

Love Scout has seen significant success since its January 10 debut, with ratings leaping from 6.5% to 10.5%. Now, with Episode 7, the drama not only broke its Friday rating record but also secured the top spot in its time slot, surpassing all other miniseries airing during the same period. Han Ji Min and Lee Joon Hyuk’s onscreen chemistry continues to capture the hearts of viewers, and it’s clear that the drama has struck a chord with K-drama fans.

Motel California, which airs on MBC TV in the same Friday-Saturday timeslot, had a modest rise in ratings, reaching 4.7% on January 24 after hitting a low of 3.6% last Saturday. Despite this improvement, it still falls short of the series’ personal-best rating of 5.2%.

In the OTT space, Kim Hye Soo’s new series “Unmasked” (also known as Trigger) has been garnering significant attention. The workplace thriller comedy, which premiered on Disney+ on January 15, stars Kim Hye Soo, a veteran actress known for her roles in Juvenile Justice and Signal, alongside Jung Sung Il and Joo Jong Hyuk. Since its release, the show has been a hit, ranking #1 in Disney Plus’s overall Korean content category for seven consecutive days.

The series follows a group of investigative journalists racing against time to uncover a high-stakes story. Unmasked has not only dominated the charts in South Korea but has also made waves internationally. According to FlixPatrol, a global OTT content ranking site, the show maintained its spot in the Top 5 in multiple countries, including Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, and Turkey.

The success of Love Scout and Unmasked highlights the growing influence of both traditional broadcast television and OTT platforms in shaping the global K-drama landscape. As these shows continue to rise in popularity, they are setting new benchmarks for K-drama success in terms of viewership and international appeal. With more episodes to come, fans of both dramas are eagerly awaiting what’s next.
