Karan Singh Tyagi’s historical courtroom drama, “Kesari Chapter 2,” starring Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday, continues its steady run at the Indian box office, nearing the ₹40 crore milestone within just five days of its release.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film garnered ₹4.37 crore net on Tuesday, bringing its total domestic collection to ₹38.37 crore. Globally, the film crossed ₹55 crore within the first four days of its release, reflecting strong audience interest both in India and overseas.
“Kesari Chapter 2” hit theatres on April 18 with an opening day collection of ₹7.75 crore. Over the first weekend, the film collected ₹9.75 crore on Saturday and ₹12 crore on Sunday, followed by ₹4.5 crore on Monday. The consistent earnings, even on weekdays, suggest a positive word-of-mouth buzz and a loyal viewer base.
The film, directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, is a spiritual sequel to the 2019 hit Kesari, and sees Akshay Kumar step into the role of lawyer C Sankaran Nair, who famously challenged the British Empire after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. R Madhavan portrays Neville McKinley, Nair’s legal rival, while Ananya Panday stars as Dilreet Gill.
One particular scene from the film made headlines for its bold dialogue, where Akshay’s character says “f**k you” to a British officer. Addressing the scene in an interview with Filmy Shilmy, director Tyagi explained, “It was very important for us to include that line because we wanted to reflect the courage Sankaran Nair embodied. It’s the emotional core of our story—standing up against oppression without fear.”
“Kesari Chapter 2” has been well-received by critics and audiences alike for its powerful performances, intense courtroom drama, and historical relevance.
As the film approaches its first full week, all eyes are on whether it will cross the ₹50 crore mark domestically in the coming days.
