“Gadar 2 Overtakes “Pathaan” to Secure the Title of Highest Grossing Hindi Film in India”

Gadar 2 Surpasses "Pathaan" to Become Highest Grossing Hindi Film in India

Sunny Deol’s much-anticipated film, “Gadar 2,” has achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the highest grossing Hindi film in India, surpassing Shah Rukh Khan’s “Pathaan.” The fierce competition between “Gadar 2” and “Jawan” to claim the top spot has finally ended, with “Gadar 2” emerging victorious.

Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the exhilarating news. He revealed that “Gadar 2” has earned ₹524.75 crore nett in India, solidifying its position as the new record-holder for the highest domestic box office collection in Hindi cinema.

“Pathaan,” Shah Rukh Khan’s spy action thriller released in January of the same year, had held the title of the highest grossing Hindi movie for several months. The battle for supremacy had been a subject of speculation, with audiences eager to see whether Shah Rukh Khan’s “Jawan,” released on September 7, or Sunny Deol’s “Gadar 2,” which hit screens on August 11, would emerge victorious.

Taran Adarsh, in a tweet, exclaimed, “Gadar 2 crosses lifetime business of Pathaan’s Hindi version [₹524.53 crore] in India… Now no. 1 HIGHEST GROSSING FILM in Hindi in India.” He also provided a breakdown of “Gadar 2’s” box office performance, revealing its week-wise earnings, concluding with a grand total of ₹524.75 crore nett in India.

While “Gadar 2” clinches the top spot, “Jawan” is steadily making its way towards the ₹600 crore club in India, having collected ₹579.93 crore nett in all languages, as reported by Sacnilk.com. “Jawan” was released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, expanding its reach and popularity among audiences.

“Gadar 2” is the much-anticipated sequel to the 2001 hit film “Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.” In the film, Sunny Deol reprises his role as Tara Singh, an Indian truck driver, while Ameesha Patel returns as Sakeena, a Pakistani woman. The film’s success was celebrated with a grand success party in Mumbai, attended by Bollywood luminaries such as Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Varun Dhawan, Dharmendra, Sidharth Malhotra, Kiara Advani, Shilpa Shetty, and others. Sunny Deol’s son and actor Karan Deol delighted fans by sharing inside pictures from the celebratory event.
