After a phenomenal run at the box office, Vicky Kaushal’s historical epic Chhaava is set to reach global audiences as it premieres on Netflix on April 11. The streaming giant announced the film’s arrival with an Instagram post featuring the movie’s poster and the caption: “Aale Raje aale 👑 Witness a tale of courage and glory etched in time 🔥⚔️. Watch Chhaava, out 11 April on Netflix.”
Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, Chhaava hit theatres on February 14 and quickly became one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of all time. The period drama, which narrates the life and legacy of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has grossed an impressive ₹804 crore worldwide, with ₹599 crore collected in India alone — surpassing Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan (₹582.31 crore domestic).
The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast including Rashmika Mandanna, Akshay Khanna, Vineet Kumar Singh, and Ashutosh Rana. AR Rahman composed the soul-stirring soundtrack, with lyrics by Irshad Kamil, further elevating the cinematic experience.
Vicky Kaushal, who plays the titular role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, called the film one of the most fulfilling projects of his career. “Playing Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was an honour beyond words. His courage, resilience, and legacy are something that should reach every corner of the world,” he said. “With Netflix, we’re ensuring his story not only penetrates deeper in India but also gets the global platform it deserves.”
Producer Dinesh Vijan echoed the sentiment, saying, “Chhaava is not just a tale of courage, it’s a celebration of legacy, resilience, and sacrifice. We are excited to bring it to a global audience on Netflix, where the story can live on and inspire viewers worldwide.”
Chhaava stands as a testament to Indian cinema’s ability to blend historical storytelling with mainstream appeal. Its arrival on OTT is expected to draw a massive digital viewership, continuing its triumphant journey far beyond theatres.
