“Ayushmann Khurrana Declines Border 2 Role Due to Uncertainty Over Positioning in Sunny Deol’s War Sequel: Report”

Ayushmann Khurrana Passes on Border 2 Role Amid Sunny Deol's Prominent Presence: Report

Ayushmann Khurrana has reportedly declined the opportunity to star in Border 2, the much-anticipated sequel to the 1997 war film Border. According to a Mid-day report, Khurrana decided to withdraw from the project due to concerns about his role in a film led by Sunny Deol, a prominent figure in Indian cinema.

Sunny Deol recently announced Border 2, which will be directed by Anurag Singh. The sequel aims to revisit the dramatic themes of the original Border, which depicted the 1971 India-Pakistan war. While initial speculation suggested that both Deol and Khurrana would play leading roles, Khurrana’s departure has raised questions about the film’s casting and dynamics.

Reasons for Khurrana’s Withdrawal

Sources indicate that Khurrana was initially in talks to play a soldier in the sequel. Despite mutual interest, the actor reportedly felt uncertain about his role within an ensemble cast dominated by Deol, who is known for his commanding presence. The source mentioned, “Ayushmann was in talks to play a soldier in the sequel. While both Ayushmann and the makers were keen on collaborating, the actor felt unsure of his positioning in an ensemble led by Sunny Deol, a towering star in his own right.”

Potential Casting Updates

Recent rumors have suggested that Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh might join the cast. The source noted, “Nothing is confirmed yet. But Diljit has been approached by the makers. It will be a treat to see Diljit and Sunny together on screen, given their strong audience base in north India.” The film is expected to begin production by November.

About Border 2

The announcement of Border 2 was a significant moment for fans of the original film. Directed by JP Dutta, Border was celebrated for its portrayal of the Battle of Longewala and its musical score, including the hit song “Sandese Aate Hai” by Roopkumar Rathod and Sonu Nigam. Sunny Deol, who starred in the original film, has promised that the sequel will honor the legacy of its predecessor. In an Instagram video, Deol expressed, “27 saal pehle ek fauji ne vada kiya tha ki vo vapas aayega. Ussi vaade ko poora karne, Hindustan ki mitti ko apna salaam kehne, aa raha hai (27 years ago, a soldier made a promise that he would return. To fulfill that promise, to salute the soil of India, he is coming).”
