Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar and renowned filmmaker Karan Johar are set to collaborate once again, this time on a film inspired by the life of C. Sankaran Nair, a significant figure in India’s fight for independence. The film, set during the aftermath of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, was officially announced with a poster revealing its release date on March 14, 2025.
Dharma Productions, led by Karan Johar, shared the first look of the untitled project on Instagram, announcing that Akshay Kumar will star alongside R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday. The poster’s tagline reads, “An untold story, an unheard truth,” and describes the film as a courtroom drama centered on a shocking cover-up of the massacre that compelled India’s top lawyer, C. Sankaran Nair, to take on the British Empire.
The film is based on the book The Case That Shook the Empire by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat, which explores the defamation lawsuit filed by Michael O’Dwyer, the Lieutenant Governor of Punjab during the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, against Nair. Nair, a lawyer, politician, and reformer, played a pivotal role in exposing the British atrocities and fighting for justice in India’s pre-independence era.
Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, the film is set to be an intense courtroom drama, highlighting Nair’s unprecedented legal battle. Akshay Kumar will portray the role of Nair, while this project also marks his first collaboration with R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday.
Produced by Dharma Productions, Cape of Good Films, and Leo Media Collective, the film adds to an exciting slate of projects for Akshay Kumar, who is also gearing up for other releases like Housefull 5 and Welcome to the Jungle. Meanwhile, R. Madhavan is also set to appear in Aditya Dhar’s untitled project, co-starring Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, and Arjun Rampal.
This upcoming film is highly anticipated, with audiences eager to see the powerful story of C. Sankaran Nair come to life on the big screen. Fans are especially excited about the stellar cast and the film’s historical significance.
