The decision to leave the platform comes shortly after he faced a wave of criticism following his appearance at The Galatta Plus Mega Pan India Directors’ Round Table 2024, a high-profile discussion with prominent directors of pan-Indian films.
Reports suggest that Vignesh’s participation in the roundtable discussion was met with backlash, as many questioned his inclusion in the event. Critics pointed out that Vignesh’s recent projects, such as the 2022 film Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal, were not pan-Indian in nature, nor does his upcoming film Love Insurance Kompany fall into the pan-India category. The choice of the filmmakers invited to the discussion and the interviewer himself also became subjects of heated debate on social media.
Despite the online uproar, Vignesh has not issued any statement regarding his decision to deactivate his X account. His Instagram account, however, remains active, and he has continued posting there without directly addressing the deactivation of his Twitter-like account.
The timing of Vignesh’s social media exit coincides with another controversy involving his wife, superstar Nayanthara, and Tamil actor Dhanush. The tension stems from Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale, a documentary featuring Nayanthara’s life and career. Dhanush has reportedly sent a legal notice to Nayanthara, objecting to the use of footage from their collaborative film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in the documentary.
In response, Nayanthara issued an open letter to Dhanush, expressing her disappointment over the legal notice. She pointed out the disparity between their positions in the film industry, highlighting her journey as a self-made woman without industry connections. She stressed the significance of cinema and called for mutual understanding among industry peers, urging Dhanush to reconsider his stance.
