Renowned Bollywood actress Vidya Balan has filed a police complaint with the Mumbai Police against an unidentified individual who created a counterfeit Instagram account under her name, allegedly attempting to extort money from unsuspecting individuals by promising job opportunities.
According to the Mumbai Police, the perpetrator behind the fake Instagram account, identical to Vidya Balan’s official handle, reached out to people associated with the film industry, soliciting funds under the guise of offering employment opportunities. The incident has caused significant distress for Balan, whose online presence boasts a substantial following, with fans eagerly engaging with her content, including videos and reels.
A police official disclosed that the perpetrator not only created a replica Instagram account but also established a corresponding Gmail account to facilitate communication with potential victims within the Bollywood community. Vidya Balan became aware of the scam and promptly reported the matter to the authorities, prompting the Khar Police to register a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 66 (C) of the Information Technology Act. An investigation has been initiated to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.
This is not the first instance of Vidya Balan encountering such fraudulent activity. The actress had previously alerted her followers via Instagram stories about unauthorized accounts operating under her name.
