Triptii Dimri Addresses Backlash Over ‘Mere Mehboob’ Dance Moves: “Experimentation Shouldn’t Be Stopped”

Triptii Dimri Responds to Backlash Over Dance Moves in "Mere Mehboob"

Triptii Dimri is making waves with her recent song “Mere Mehboob,” choreographed by the renowned Ganesh Acharya, but not all the attention has been positive. The actor’s dance, particularly her pelvic thrusts on the floor, has drawn criticism on social media, with some users labeling it as cringe-worthy and embarrassing.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Triptii addressed the backlash for the first time. She expressed her surprise at the negative response, admitting she didn’t anticipate such criticism. “I may not be good at everything, but what’s wrong with trying? You must give it your best,” she stated, emphasizing the importance of experimentation in her craft.

When asked about the specific hook step that many viewers found uncomfortable, Triptii remarked, “Not really… As an actor, I’m trying to do different things. Earlier, I thought that to be an actor you only need to know acting, and you are fine. When things became true, I realized that when you are offered a show, you should know how to walk properly, and when you are offered a dance number, you should know how to dance well.”

She acknowledged that “Mere Mehboob” marks her first dance number and didn’t expect it to generate such a polarized response. “But it has happened to everybody. There will be things that people will not like, but that doesn’t mean you stop experimenting or you stop doing what you want to do. You can’t stop yourself,” she added.

The song “Mere Mehboob” has a catchy tune that has resonated with fans, even as the choreography has sparked mixed reactions. Some fans have criticized the specific dance steps given to Triptii as awkward and embarrassing.

The track is from the upcoming film Vicky Aur Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, directed by Raaj Shaandilya, which features Rajkummar Rao alongside Triptii. The comedy revolves around the mishaps surrounding a lost sex tape of a newly married couple from the ’90s and includes a talented ensemble cast featuring Mallika Sherawat, Vijay Raaz, Rakesh Bedi, Archana Puran Singh, Tiku Talsania, and Mukesh Tiwari. The film is set to hit theaters on October 11.
