Writer-director and cancer survivor Tahira Kashyap announces her second breast cancer diagnosis with optimism and gratitude
In a poignant and powerful revelation made on World Health Day, writer-director Tahira Kashyap shared that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time. Tahira, who is married to actor Ayushmann Khurrana, was first diagnosed with the illness in 2018 and has since been a vocal advocate for cancer awareness and mental health.
Despite the gravity of her diagnosis, Tahira approached the news with her characteristic positivity and wit. Taking to Instagram, she posted a heartfelt message along with a reminder to prioritize health and regular screenings.
“Seven-year itch or the power of regular screening — it’s a perspective, I’d like to go with the latter and suggest the same for everyone who needs to get regular mammograms. Round 2 for me… I still got this,” she wrote.
In her caption, she added a dose of her signature humor and resilience:
“When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. When life becomes too generous and throws them again at you, you squeeze them calmly into your favourite kala khatta drink and sip it with all the good intentions. Because, for one, it’s a better drink, and two, you know you will give it your best once again. Ironically or not, today is World Health Day. Let’s do whatever we can in our capacity to take care of ourselves, gratitude through and through.”
The announcement has since drawn an outpouring of love, support, and encouragement from fans, celebrities, and cancer survivors across social media. Many praised Tahira for her courage, positivity, and continued advocacy for early detection and self-care.
Tahira’s journey with cancer in 2018 had inspired many, as she publicly documented her battle, from diagnosis to recovery, using her platform to spread awareness and hope. Her return to the battlefield of cancer, as she calls it “Round 2,” is yet another testament to her indomitable spirit.
As the world observes World Health Day, Tahira’s message is a timely and powerful reminder of the importance of regular health checkups, early diagnosis, and maintaining a positive mindset in the face of adversity.
