The dynamic duo of Taapsee Pannu and Kanika Dhillon are teaming up once again, this time for a new action thriller titled Gandhari, set to debut on Netflix. The announcement, which was made through a motion poster released by the streaming giant, has generated considerable buzz among fans of the actress-writer pair.
Pannu and Dhillon previously collaborated on successful projects such as Haseen Dillruba, Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba, Manmarziyan, Rashmi Rocket, and Dunki. Their latest venture, Gandhari, marks their return to the screen together, but this time, in the form of an action-packed thriller.
The motion poster shared by Netflix on Tuesday features a gripping background audio of Taapsee Pannu’s voice, which sets the tone for the film. “Kehte hain maa ki dua hamesha saath chalti hai. Lekin jab uski bachi par aati hai, to kaali bhi vo hi banti hai” (They say a mother’s prayers always stay with her, but when it comes to her child, even darkness is her ally), Pannu’s voice intones, hinting at the intense and fiery nature of the film.
Kanika Dhillon, who wrote the Haseen Dillruba series, is not only writing but also producing Gandhari. She described the film as a “fiery, raw action thriller” and expressed her enthusiasm for the project. In a statement to Variety, Dhillon shared, “After the immense love for our film Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba, starting Gandhari with Taapsee feels like a creative homecoming. The film dives deep into the essence of a mother’s unwavering love and ferocity. Don’t mess with a tigress’ cub, because she will destroy you! Taapsee and I are coming together for a fiery, raw, action thriller for the first time! And we are excited to bring this powerful tale of revenge and redemption! Netflix has given us the freedom to push creative boundaries and present this story in its truest form. I’m very excited for our audiences to experience this emotionally charged, action-packed, thrilling saga – Gandhari!”
The announcement has been met with enthusiastic reactions from the industry. Sunny Kaushal, who starred in Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba, commented, “Kya baat hai haseenas” (What a feat, beauties), while actress Sadia Khateeb simply remarked, “Dropping bombs.”
