Suriya and Jyotika Overflow with Pride as Daughter Diya Releases Documentary on Women Gaffers in the Film Industry

Actor couple Suriya and Jyotika are brimming with pride over their daughter Diya’s latest achievement—her student documentary titled Leading Light—The Untold Stories of Women Behind the Scenes. The short film, which highlights the struggles of female gaffers in the entertainment industry, has earned widespread praise and awards, with both Suriya and Jyotika sharing heartwarming messages about their daughter’s success on social media.

Proud Parents Share Heartfelt Messages

Suriya took to Instagram to share the poster of Diya’s documentary along with a touching note of admiration. “Dear Diya, I am incredibly proud of you for making this documentary! It’s inspiring to see how you’ve given a voice to the amazing women behind the scenes. I know this is just the beginning of your wonderful journey. Keep following your passion, I’m so proud to be your Appa and I can’t wait to see where this path takes you next,” he wrote. Suriya also added the documentary’s link in his bio, encouraging followers to watch Diya’s work.

Jyotika echoed her husband’s sentiments, posting both the documentary’s poster and a picture of Diya holding certificates for her awards. She wrote, “Proud of you Diya for making such a meaningful student documentary on the discrimination faced by female gaffers in the entertainment industry. Keep it up and thank you for throwing light on this underlying issue.” Diya recently won the Best Student Short Film award and a special jury prize for Best Screenwriter at the Triloka International Filmfare Awards.

In response, Diya thanked both her parents under their posts, expressing her gratitude for their unwavering support. Her 13-minute documentary, available on YouTube, features interviews with women who have struggled to gain recognition as gaffers in Bollywood, a role traditionally dominated by men. Diya is credited as the film’s director and for conceptualizing the project.

On the work front, Suriya was last seen in the 2022 film Etharkkum Thunindhavan. Since then, he has made brief appearances in films like Vikram, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, and Sarfira. He will next be seen in Siva’s highly anticipated film Kanguva, which is slated for release on November 14 this year. He is also working on a film with director Karthik Subbaraj and recently produced his brother Karthi’s film Meiyazhagan, which co-stars Arvind Swami.
