Sandeepa Dhar Criticizes Bollywood for Normalizing Botox: “People Risk Their Lives on Operating Tables”

Sandeepa Dhar Criticizes Bollywood Stars for Normalizing Botox: "It’s a Big Deal"

Actor Sandeepa Dhar has taken a strong stand against Bollywood celebrities who casually talk about undergoing Botox and cosmetic procedures. In a recent interview, she expressed her concerns about how the entertainment industry normalizes cosmetic enhancements, potentially influencing young audiences.

Sandeepa Dhar on the Pressure to Look Young

Speaking with TellyChakkar, Sandeepa addressed the industry’s obsession with youth and the pressure it places on actors, especially women. She highlighted the notion that actresses have a “shelf life” and are expected to maintain a youthful appearance despite natural ageing.

“I think ageing is one [pressure]. As a woman, I don’t know why, but it’s constantly told to you that an actress has a shelf life. It’s such a visual medium that you’re expected to always look a certain way, and as you grow older, you start noticing lines on your face. That is actually such a beautiful thing, but somehow the industry makes you feel like it’s wrong,” Sandeepa said.

She further emphasized that every wrinkle tells a story and should not be seen as a flaw. “As I’m growing older, I’ve come to realize that every line on my face has a story. It’ll only add to my character. I don’t need to succumb to injections and surgeries to look like a 21-year-old. I’m not a 21-year-old,” she asserted.

Calls Out Celebs for Normalizing Botox

Sandeepa did not hold back in calling out Bollywood stars who make cosmetic procedures seem casual. She pointed out that such statements can negatively influence young girls who might feel pressured to alter their appearance.

“There was an actress’ interview that I saw recently where she said, ‘Haan, maine toh do-teen cheeze karayi hai (Yes, I have got two-three things done). What’s the big deal, I’ll own up to it.’ No, it is a big deal. Don’t make it look like it’s not a big deal,” Sandeepa remarked.

She added that surgeries and cosmetic procedures carry risks. “It’s an operation, it’s a serious thing that you’re doing. There are 16-17-year-old girls out there who will collect money from here and there and be like, ‘I want to change this thing about myself.’ You know how many people die on those operation tables? It’s very risky, it’s a surgery at the end of the day. In fact, you should not be doing surgeries unless your life is at risk,” she warned.

Other Bollywood Celebs on Cosmetic Procedures

Sandeepa’s comments come in the wake of several Bollywood stars openly discussing their experiences with cosmetic procedures. Last year, The Archies star Khushi Kapoor admitted to getting a nose job and fillers. She defended her decision by saying, “I don’t think it’s such a big deal.”

Similarly, Maheep Kapoor, in an interview with Filmfare, revealed that she experimented with fillers before Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives Season 2 but was dissatisfied with the results and later switched to Botox.

Sandeepa Dhar’s Work Front

Sandeepa Dhar, known for her performances in Isi Life Mein, Abhay, and Mai: A Mother’s Rage, was recently seen in the web series Pyar Ka Professor, which premiered on MX Player.

Conclusion

Sandeepa Dhar’s candid take on Bollywood’s Botox culture has sparked a debate on social media. While some support her call for embracing natural ageing, others believe cosmetic procedures are a personal choice. Her remarks have added to the ongoing conversation about beauty standards and the pressures of the entertainment industry.
