Nikkhil Advani Reveals Salman Khan’s Support After Split with Karan Johar: “You Will Work for Me”

Nikkhil Advani Reveals Salman Khan's Support After Departure from Dharma Productions

Filmmaker Nikkhil Advani recently opened up about the pivotal role Salman Khan played in his career following his departure from Dharma Productions. In an interview with Galatta Plus, Advani shared insights into his career trajectory, detailing how Khan stepped in as a mentor and offered him an opportunity to work on his projects.

Advani’s exit from Dharma Productions came after a high-profile disagreement with Karan Johar, which generated significant media buzz. Reflecting on that period, Advani revealed that Salman Khan extended a helping hand during a challenging time. “Salman Khan prides himself on being the messiah of the industry,” Advani said. “The minute I walked out of the doors of Dharma Productions, I got a call from Salman saying, ‘Come and meet me’. (He then said) ‘Now you will work for me, you will make a film for me’. And I appreciate that.”

Advani further elaborated on his career choices and the context behind his departure. He described his decision to leave Dharma Productions as stemming from a desire to prove his versatility in directing. “Salaam-e-Ishq was an outcome of arrogance that, ‘Okay, people feel that I have not directed Kal Ho Naa Ho, I’ll direct six love stories,'” he explained. Despite his ambitious plans, the film did not meet expectations.

Salman Khan’s support proved crucial for Advani. The filmmaker’s collaboration with Khan began with the movie “Hero,” which came shortly after Advani’s “D-Day.” Despite some of his projects, including “Hero” and “Katti Batti,” not performing well at the box office, Khan’s backing was a significant boost for Advani.

Advani’s career began with the successful film “Kal Ho Naa Ho,” featuring an ensemble cast including Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, and Saif Ali Khan. Following that, his film “Salaam-E-Ishq” included a star-studded cast with Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, and John Abraham.
