Renowned actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui opened up about facing discrimination in the film industry based on his appearance, acknowledging the impact of societal perceptions on his self-image.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui, celebrated for his versatile performances in films like “The Lunchbox,” “Gangs of Wasseypur,” and “Sacred Games,” candidly discussed the discrimination he has encountered in Bollywood due to his looks. In a recent interview with News18, the actor revealed that he has internalized negative feedback about his physical appearance to the extent that he now considers himself the ‘ugliest actor’ in the industry.
“Maybe it’s because we’re just that ugly,” Nawazuddin remarked, reflecting on why some individuals harbor disdain towards him and others like him. “Even I feel it when I look at myself in the mirror. I question why I came into the film industry with such a bad appearance.”
The actor elaborated, stating, “I’m the ugliest actor – physically – in the film industry. Main toh yeh maanta hoon. Kyun ki main shuru se yeh sab sunte aa raha hoon aur abhi maanne bhi laga hoon” (I have been hearing it for so long that I’ve started to believe it).
Despite grappling with such sentiments, Nawazuddin expressed gratitude for the opportunities that have allowed him to portray a diverse range of characters throughout his career. His recent projects include “Haddi” and “Rautu Ka Raaz,” both of which premiered on the OTT platform Zee5.
