Navjot Singh Sidhu, the former cricketer turned politician, recently shed light on his exit from The Kapil Sharma Show during an interview on The Grain Talk Show’s YouTube channel. Sidhu, who became a well-loved part of the show’s success, was asked why he left in 2019, a decision that sparked much speculation at the time. In his diplomatic response, Sidhu cited “political reasons” and mentioned that the “bouquet fell apart,” though he chose not to delve deeper into the specifics of the situation.
At the time of his departure, rumors circulated that Sidhu’s exit was prompted by his controversial remarks on the Pulwama terror attack, leading to his replacement by Archana Puran Singh. Despite his departure, Sidhu shared fond memories of the show and its success, crediting the show’s creation to divine intervention. “The Kapil Sharma Show was a bouquet made by God. No one can take credit for it. It had different fragrances,” Sidhu reflected, reminiscing about the camaraderie and the unique chemistry between the original cast members.
Sidhu praised Kapil Sharma, the show’s creator and host, for his resilience, especially during the rough patch in Kapil’s career. He recalled how, when Kapil was struggling, many believed his career was over. Sidhu, however, never lost faith in him. “I said ‘guys, he’s a 20. If you can even find someone who is a 10 and make him stand in front of Kapil, I will listen. But right now, even a 5 doesn’t exist,’” he said, recognizing Kapil’s unparalleled talent. “You will have to replace him with something better. Otherwise, you will keep missing him. You don’t have a genius like him.”
Sidhu also expressed his wish for a reunion of the original cast of the show. “I have a wish that that bouquet must get together again, the way it was. I will be the first to facilitate,” Sidhu shared, reminiscing about the good times with the beloved cast members. “Kapil is a genius,” he continued, adding that the show’s ongoing success speaks to Kapil’s unique talent. He also recalled the fun and humor brought to the show by actors like Ali Asgar (Dadi) and Sunil Grover (Gutthi), both of whom he praised for their brilliance.
The upcoming episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show featuring Sidhu, his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu, former cricketer Harbhajan Singh, and his wife Geeta Basra is set to stream on November 16. Fans can look forward to more of Sidhu’s insights and nostalgic moments from his time on Kapil’s show.
Sidhu’s heartfelt wish for a reunion with the original Kapil Sharma Show team has only fueled fans’ hopes for a return to the good old days of television’s most iconic comedy show.
