Pakistani actress Mahira Khan recently opened up about the emotional struggles she faced after her viral picture with Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor surfaced online. The picture, which showed the two stars smoking together on the streets of New York, triggered widespread rumors about their relationship and sparked a backlash for Mahira, particularly due to her smoking in public.
In an interview with BBC Asian Network, Mahira admitted that when the picture went viral, she thought her career might be over. “I remember reading the article ‘The Little White Dress’ and thinking, ‘Is my career over?'” she shared. The article highlighted Mahira’s achievements, including her success in Pakistan, endorsements, and her rising fame, but it also questioned her future after the scandal. “I read it and I was like ‘Damn,'” Mahira recalled. “But I told myself, ‘Are you mad? This is going to end,'” she added.
The emotional toll was significant for the actress. She confessed that during that time, she found it difficult to get out of bed, and it affected both her personal and professional life. “I was crying daily,” she said, emphasizing the tough period she went through.
Despite the challenges, Mahira remained resilient and decided to remain positive. She also clarified that her professional choices, particularly regarding her relationship with Ranbir Kapoor, were a result of personal decisions that were right for her and her son, Azlan. “I did the right thing personally. I made some personal choices that were right for me and my child,” Mahira said.
While rumors swirled around her personal life, Mahira said she maintained a quiet stance, letting the situation play out without publicly commenting. “All the brands called me and said we are with you,” she revealed, expressing gratitude for the support she received during this difficult time.
Mahira, who married Salim Karim last year, previously went through a divorce from her first husband, Ali Askari, in 2015. She has a 13-year-old son, Azlan, from her first marriage. Professionally, Mahira continues to thrive, with her upcoming Netflix series, Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo, featuring Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed, slated for release next year.
Despite the personal and professional hurdles, Mahira has shown immense resilience, choosing to focus on the future while remaining grounded in her values and responsibilities as a mother.
