Kiran Rao’s directorial feature, Laapataa Ladies, was showcased at the Supreme Court of India on August 9, marking a significant moment for the film. The screening, which highlighted themes of gender equality, was attended by notable figures including Aamir Khan, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, and Ms. Kalpana Das.
Kiran Rao shared her joy and gratitude on Instagram, posting a series of pictures from the screening event. The images capture moments of Kiran addressing the audience with Aamir Khan by her side, as well as a memorable photo of the trio with CJI DY Chandrachud and Ms. Kalpana Das.
In her Instagram post, Kiran expressed her appreciation: “We had the unbelievable honour of screening our film Laapataa Ladies at the Supreme Court yesterday. As is visible in these pictures, I am over the moon! Deeply grateful to our absolutely brilliant CJI DY Chandrachud, his wonderful partner Ms Kalpana Das, and the whole team of the CJI. It is an experience I will personally always hold dear, and on behalf of my entire cast and crew, I am so thankful for this honour.”
The post received warm reactions from the film’s cast, including Pratibha Ranta, who played Pushpa, and Nitanshi Goel, who portrayed Phool. Both actors commented on the post with heartfelt emojis.
Laapataa Ladies features newcomers Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastav, and Nitanshi Goel. Set in the fictional state of Nirmal Pradesh in 2001, the film tells the story of two brides who are swapped in a train accident. One bride is taken home by the wrong groom, while the other is left stranded. The investigation is led by a police officer, played by Ravi Kishan. The film, based on an award-winning story by Biplab Goswami, is produced by Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao, and Jyoti Deshpande under the banners of Aamir Khan Productions, Kindling Pictures, and Jio Studios.
