In a recent interview with The Week, Kiran Rao, former wife of Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, has shed light on the amicable nature of her relationship with Aamir and his family post-divorce. The couple, who announced their separation in 2022 after 15 years of marriage, has maintained a strong bond for the sake of their family.
Despite the divorce, Kiran Rao emphasized that they remain a close-knit family, and their relationship extends beyond the conventional constraints of a broken marriage. She shared insights into their regular gatherings, mentioning Monday night dinners where they all come together. The family, including Aamir’s first wife Reena Dutta and their children, often spends time in each other’s company.
Kiran Rao also touched upon the recent wedding of Aamir’s daughter, Ira Khan, with longtime boyfriend Nupur Shikhare. The celebration saw the entire extended family participating, reinforcing the idea that their connection goes beyond the legalities of marriage.
“We are all naturally inclusive. We all get together for dinners on Monday nights. We live in a community, and our homes are all in the same housing society. I hang out with Reena and Nuzhat (Aamir’s cousin) independently of Aamir, too. These are relationships you shouldn’t lose if you get divorced. Aamir and I didn’t have an acrimonious divorce; we may have parted as a couple but we are very much a family. Even at the end of a marriage, you’ve put so many years into a relationship, and that should count for something,” Kiran Rao shared in the interview.
The positive and inclusive approach that Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao have adopted post-divorce sets an example of maintaining familial bonds despite changes in marital status.
