
Akshay Kumar’s historical courtroom drama, Kesari Chapter 2, continues to perform well at the box office, earning a significant place in the Rs 80 crore club. As of Day 17 (May 4), the film has amassed ₹80.20 crore, further cementing its status as a major box-office contender.
Released on April 18, Kesari Chapter 2 is a sequel to Akshay Kumar’s 2019 hit Kesari, and it explores the aftermath of the infamous Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919. The film has been praised for its compelling narrative and outstanding performances, particularly by Akshay Kumar, who plays the pivotal role of barrister C Shankaran Nair. His portrayal of the lawyer who fights for justice in the wake of the massacre has struck a chord with audiences.
According to reports from Sacnilk, the film earned ₹2.35 crore on its third Sunday (Day 17), which helped maintain its momentum in the competitive box office landscape. The film witnessed a 35.45% occupancy rate on May 4, with the highest footfall recorded during the evening shows (49.70%), followed by afternoon screenings (40.43%). While the night shows had a 35.19% occupancy rate, morning screenings saw the lowest turnout at 16.48%.
Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, Kesari Chapter 2 portrays the fight for justice after the tragic events at Jallianwala Bagh, where thousands of Indians were killed by British forces during a peaceful gathering. The film highlights the courage of those who stood up against British imperialism, particularly focusing on the real-life figure of C Shankaran Nair, played by Kumar.
The cast also includes Ananya Panday as a young lawyer, Dilreet Kaur, and R Madhavan as lawyer Neville McKinley, with supporting roles from Regina Cassandra, Simon Paisley Day, and Alexx O’Nell.
