In a recent interaction with IANS, Kangana revealed that she extended a personal invitation to politician Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to watch the film. Kangana shared, “I actually met Priyanka Gandhi in the parliament. The first thing I told her was, ‘You should watch Emergency.’ She was very gracious and said, ‘Yeah, maybe.’ So, let’s see if they would want to watch the film.”
A Sensitive Portrayal of Indira Gandhi
Kangana, who portrays the role of Indira Gandhi, emphasized the effort she put into presenting a balanced and dignified depiction of the late Prime Minister. Speaking about her research for the role, she said, “There was so much material about her personal life—her relationships and controversial equations. But I chose to focus on portraying her with great dignity and sensibility.”
She added that women, particularly powerful figures like Indira Gandhi, are often reduced to their personal relationships, overshadowing their achievements. “I think everybody should see this film. It’s a sensitive portrayal of one episode and one personality,” she noted.

Kangana also acknowledged Indira Gandhi’s stature as a leader, describing her as “loved and celebrated” despite the controversies surrounding the Emergency. She remarked, “Being a three-time Prime Minister is not a joke. She was loved and celebrated. Apart from some crazy things that happened during the Emergency, she was admired by many.”
