Actor John Vijay, known for his roles in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi films, has come under fire again for alleged harassment. This time, the accusations have been brought to light by singer Chinmayi Sripaada, who has shared screenshots of complaints from women detailing their experiences with the actor
The new round of allegations follows a report by The Newsminute, which highlighted an incident involving John Vijay making inappropriate advances towards a reporter during an interview. Since then, Chinmayi Sripaada has posted screenshots on X (formerly Twitter) from several women who have accused Vijay of making them feel uncomfortable in various settings, including workplaces, pubs, and restaurants. One journalist also claimed he behaved inappropriately towards her.
Chinmayi’s post adds context to these accusations, stating, “After The Newsminute report about the sexual assault case in Malayalam cinema mentioned John Vijay for his misdemeanour with the journalist, other women have come forward with their experiences.” She urged other victims to share their stories, asserting that silence would only perpetuate the issue.
The latest accusations echo those made during the #MeToo movement in 2018 when John Vijay was criticized by several women, including VJ, RJ, and singer Sriranjani, for similar behavior. At the time, Sriranjani publicly condemned Vijay’s actions, which led to a broader discussion about his conduct.
In response to the previous allegations, Vijay had issued an apology in 2018. He expressed regret for any offense caused, stating, “I am a very transparent person who speaks my heart out. I understand that my jokes might not always be well received. If my comments hurt anyone, I am deeply sorry.”
As of now, John Vijay has not publicly addressed the most recent accusations. His previous statements included an acknowledgment of his missteps and support for the #MeToo movement, expressing a desire to learn from past mistakes.
John Vijay’s recent work includes appearances in Tamil films Por and Bayamariya Brammai, the Malayalam film Thankamani, and Telugu films Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire and Razakar – Silent Genocide of Hyderabad.
