Vicky Kaushal has taken to social media to announce his latest film project, Mahavatar, where he will portray the role of the iconic warrior Parashurama. Directed by Amar Kaushik and produced by Dinesh Vijan, this ambitious mythological epic is set to hit theaters on Christmas 2026. Kaushal’s transformation into the revered Chiranjeevi Parashurama, a figure from ancient Hindu texts known for his devotion, strength, and commitment to dharma, has already captivated fans.
Kaushal shared the first poster for Mahavatar, where he appears almost unrecognizable, sporting long hair, a rugged beard, and a fierce look. In the poster, he wears a traditional rust-colored dhoti and Rudraksha beads on his wrists and arms, symbolizing Parashurama’s warrior spirit. Holding his iconic axe, a weapon given by Lord Shiva, Kaushal embodies the powerful figure, bringing Parashurama’s legendary aura to life.
On his Instagram post, Kaushal wrote, “Dinesh Vijan brings to life the story of the eternal warrior of dharma! Vicky Kaushal stars as Chiranjeevi Parashurama in #Mahavatar, directed by Amar Kaushik. Coming to cinemas – Christmas 2026!”
The character of Parashurama, regarded as the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu, is revered as a warrior dedicated to restoring justice. According to mythology, Parashurama’s mission was to free the Earth from the oppressive rule of the tyrant king Karthaveerya Arjuna, and his story is one of resilience and divine purpose. Known as Chiranjeevi, meaning immortal, Parashurama played pivotal roles in the Mahabharata, training legendary warriors like Bheeshma, Dronacharya, and Karna, and confronting Bheeshma in battle.
Kaushal’s portrayal of Parashurama marks a bold step in his career, showcasing him in an entirely new genre. Known for his versatile roles, Kaushal has steadily risen to prominence in Bollywood, with previous successes including Bad Newz alongside Triptii Dimri and Ammy Virk. His next release, Love & War, will see him share the screen with Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor.
Mahavatar promises to bring audiences a dramatic, action-filled portrayal of a timeless mythological character, and fans are eager to see Kaushal’s interpretation of Parashurama’s journey.
