Sonu Sood’s directorial debut, Fateh, has experienced a steep decline at the box office, especially on the first Monday of its release. Despite the film’s high hopes for a successful opening, the action-packed drama struggled to hold its momentum, earning just ₹85 lakh on its fourth day.
Released on January 10, Fateh had an underwhelming start at ₹2.4 crore on Day 1, followed by ₹2.1 crore on Day 2 and ₹2.25 crore on Day 3. However, the real setback came on Day 4, with the film only managing ₹85 lakh nett. Early estimates put the film’s total earnings at ₹7.60 crore, which is far below expectations. The film also had an overall occupancy rate of just 10.37% on Monday, which further emphasizes its struggles in the competitive market.
Fateh has been facing stiff competition, particularly from Ram Charan and Kiara Advani’s Game Changer, which was released around the same time. The latter’s popularity, along with the Hindi-dubbed version of the much bigger action film, has overshadowed Fateh, leading to a tough box office performance.
Sonu Sood, who also stars in the film alongside Jacqueline Fernandez, Vijay Raaz, and Naseeruddin Shah, has made headlines not just for his performance but for his shift to the director’s chair. Reflecting on his debut as a director, Sonu shared his personal experience with ANI, stating that he meticulously wrote every action sequence, right down to the details of how a character would interact with various objects in the scene. He credited the film’s action sequences to the time and effort spent on their creation.
In a previous interview during promotions, Sonu spoke passionately about the film, saying, “Stepping into the director’s chair for the first time with Fateh has been a journey of passion and purpose. This action saga calls attention to the unseen battles fought in the shadows of the digital world.”
Fateh is centered on the fight against cybercrime, inspired by real-life events that unfolded during the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite the film’s timely and relevant theme, it has struggled to captivate audiences, as indicated by its early box office figures.
With the competition heating up at the box office and the film’s performance failing to meet expectations, it remains to be seen if Fateh can bounce back in the coming weeks or if it will continue to face a tough battle for audience attention.
