Actor Emraan Hashmi is all set to portray the heroic tale of BSF officer Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey in the upcoming action-drama “Ground Zero”, a film he says tells a story that is “stranger than fiction” and more cinematic than any movie he’s seen.
At the trailer launch of the film, Hashmi shared how deeply he was moved after hearing about Dubey’s real-life mission. The officer, who played a pivotal role in tracking the mastermind behind the 2001 Parliament and Akshardham Temple terrorist attacks, led a critical counter-terrorism operation in 2003 that significantly disrupted the terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed’s network.
“There’s an old phrase that sometimes truth is stranger than fiction, and this film perfectly embodies that,” Hashmi said. “I remember meeting Mr. Dubey for the first time and telling him — your story is more filmy than any film I’ve done. And it really is. It’s extraordinary and unbelievable, just like the bravery of our BSF officers.”
Directed by Tejas Vijay Deoskar and co-produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment, “Ground Zero” brings to light a gripping tale of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism. The film also stars Sai Tamhankar and Zoya Hussain in pivotal roles and is set to hit theatres on April 25.
Hashmi expressed surprise that so little was publicly known about the operation and the contributions of Dubey and his team, despite his receiving the Kirti Chakra, India’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award.
“But it was our good fortune that we got to show this story on the big screen. It’s got action, drama, and thrills, but at the core, it’s a human story of sacrifice,” he added.
The 46-year-old actor, known for hits like Murder, Jannat, The Dirty Picture, and most recently Tiger 3, said that playing a military officer was something he had long wanted to do. “It’s on every actor’s bucket list, and it was on mine too.”
With its powerful narrative and patriotic undertones, Ground Zero promises to be a gripping tribute to the bravery of India’s Border Security Force.
