“Box Office Cheer: ‘Merry Christmas’ Rings in ₹13.8 Cr in First Six Days”

"Merry Christmas" Thrives at the Box Office, Collects ₹13.8 Cr in Six Days

In a successful run at the box office, the Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi starrer “Merry Christmas” has garnered praise and financial success since its release on January 12. Directed by Sriram Raghavan, the suspense thriller has not only captivated audiences but has also managed to secure a solid spot in the box office rankings.

According to a report by Sacnilk.com, “Merry Christmas” added approximately ₹1.1 crore nett to its earnings on the sixth day of its release, bringing the total collection to an estimated ₹13.83 crore nett across all languages in India. The film, released as a Tamil-Hindi bilingual, has been screening in theaters in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

The box office journey of “Merry Christmas” began with a promising opening of ₹2.45 crore nett in all languages on Friday. The momentum continued as the film earned ₹3.45 crore nett on Saturday and reached its highest day-wise figure on Sunday with ₹3.83 crore nett. Monday witnessed a business of ₹1.65 crore nett, and the film remained steady on Tuesday, adding another ₹1.3 crore nett to its domestic box office collection.

Celebrities, including acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, have praised the performances and storyline of “Merry Christmas.” The thriller unfolds the narrative of how an uneventful Christmas Eve disrupts the lives of two strangers. The film was shot in two languages, Hindi and Tamil, featuring different supporting casts for each version.

The Hindi version boasts the talents of Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Pratima Kannan, and Tinnu Anand alongside the lead duo of Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi. Meanwhile, the Tamil version stars Radhika Sarathkumar, Shanmugaraja, Kevin Jay Babu, and Rajesh Williams in identical roles.

Responding to inquiries about a potential sequel, director Sriram Raghavan revealed in a recent interview with India Today that he has no plans for a follow-up. He explained, “I planned this as a small movie, and let it be there only. I think of what will happen but will it be dramatically interesting? Is it worth showing or is it best to be left with the feeling of ‘it’s a Christmas special’ and what you feel is more important and that is something that needs to stay.”

With an impressive box office performance and positive reviews, “Merry Christmas” continues to make waves in the cinematic landscape, leaving audiences eagerly anticipating more from the talented cast and crew.
