Bill Gates has confirmed his relationship with his “serious girlfriend” Paula Hurd, after openly discussing the regrets he holds over his divorce from Melinda Gates. In a candid appearance on the Today show, the billionaire philanthropist revealed that he is happy in his new relationship, sharing, “I’m lucky to have a serious girlfriend named Paula. We’re having fun. Going to the Olympics and lots of great things.”
The confirmation of their romance comes after months of speculation that began in 2023, two years after Gates’ divorce from Melinda. Their connection began to make headlines around four years after the tragic passing of Paula’s husband, former Oracle CEO Mark Hurd.
Although Bill Gates has moved on from his past marriage, he recently admitted to The Times of London that his divorce from Melinda was “the mistake I most regret.” Despite this, the 69-year-old tech mogul is in a much more positive place now, stating, “I moved past the divorce. And Melinda’s doing well. I got a lot of work that I love to do so I’m not really complaining about anything.” Gates emphasized that despite the divorce, his relationship with Melinda had its valuable moments, especially their shared work and raising three children together. “Even if I knew that it wouldn’t last forever, I would still do it again,” he said.
Bill and Melinda announced their divorce in 2021, after 27 years of marriage, but have continued to maintain a cordial relationship, with Bill mentioning that they still see each other due to family events, especially as they share three children and two grandchildren.
In addition to his personal life, Gates has been seen attending various sporting events with Paula, including the wedding celebrations of Anant Ambani in India, where the couple posed in traditional attire. Their relationship also made its way into Gates’ new memoir, Source Code: My Beginnings, where he acknowledged Paula Hurd for her support during the writing process.
Although the media frenzy surrounding his personal life is constant, Gates appears to be in a positive chapter, both personally and professionally.
