In a daring incident, a delivery agent and his associate were allegedly robbed at gunpoint by four unidentified men inside the Pragati Maidan tunnel in Delhi, according to police reports on Monday. The incident, captured by a CCTV camera installed inside the tunnel, has raised concerns over the safety and security of commuters in the area.
The 22-second video footage reveals that the assailants, riding two motorcycles, were tailing the cab and intercepted it inside the tunnel while other vehicles passed by. Two individuals, wearing helmets and armed with pistols, swiftly disembarked from their bikes and approached the car. Within moments, they opened both car gates and handed over a black-colored handbag, presumably containing a substantial amount of money. The perpetrators then quickly fled the scene on their waiting motorcycles, leaving the victims in shock and distress.
The victims, who were inside a hired cab, worked as delivery agents and were carrying a bag of cash amounting to approximately Rs 2 lakh, destined for delivery in Gurugram. Following the incident, they promptly reported the robbery to the police, who have launched an investigation into the matter.
Authorities are currently examining the CCTV footage and interrogating the victims, their employer, and other staff members to determine if the robbery was an inside job. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including robbery and common intention, and efforts are underway to apprehend the culprits.
The incident has sparked outrage and concern among the public, prompting Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to demand the resignation of Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena. Kejriwal, in a tweet accompanied by a video of the incident, reiterated his call for the transfer of law and order responsibilities to the local government. He expressed his frustration with the central government’s apparent inability to ensure the safety of Delhi’s residents and claimed that his administration would demonstrate how to create a secure city.
The incident has once again brought the issue of safety and security in Delhi to the forefront, highlighting the need for enhanced measures to protect citizens and commuters. The police are diligently working to apprehend the culprits and provide justice to the victims while the public eagerly awaits concrete actions to ensure the safety of individuals traveling through the city’s tunnels and roadways.
