Instagram influencer Apoorva Mukhija, widely known as The Rebel Kid, has returned to the platform with a cryptic but hopeful message following her break from social media amid the India’s Got Latent row. Her comeback post, which marks her first upload after wiping her account clean, features a serene photo of her holding an umbrella in the rain with the caption, “Even in the gloomiest of skies, there is always light.”
The post comes days after Apoorva opened up about receiving graphic rape and death threats following her appearance on comedian Samay Raina’s YouTube show India’s Got Latent. She had been part of a panel discussion that stirred massive backlash due to controversial remarks made by YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia. Despite Allahbadia being the primary focus of criticism, Apoorva too found herself at the center of social media outrage, with clips of her from the show drawing negative attention.
In her emotional revelation earlier this week, the influencer detailed the mental toll of the online harassment. She shared that her manager advised her not to return home for safety reasons, as her address had been widely circulated. “I started reading my DMs, and they were all graphic… how people want to rape me, throw acid and stuff like that,” she stated.
Mukhija also recounted her distressing experience with the paparazzi during a police visit to record her statement, calling it a “dehumanising” ordeal. In addition, trolls began targeting her parents, especially her mother, leaving abusive comments on their personal social media profiles. “My parents did not deserve this,” she said tearfully, though she affirmed that they stood firmly by her side through the storm.
Samay Raina eventually deleted all episodes of India’s Got Latent as the backlash escalated, and several FIRs were reportedly filed against those involved, including Raina, Allahbadia, and Mukhija.
As part of her healing journey and to support others affected by violence, Apoorva announced that any revenue generated from the controversial video will be donated to NGOs that assist acid attack survivors, rape victims, and those affected by domestic violence.
Her latest post has been warmly received by followers, many interpreting the caption as a symbolic reflection of her resilience. Comments like “It’s giving the sweetest comeback” and “Finally, she is back!” flooded the post, showing strong support for her renewed presence online.
