Director Prashanth Neel Addresses ‘Salaar’ A-Certification: : ‘I haven’t made a vulgar film’

Director Prashanth Neel Addresses 'Salaar' A-Certification: "Not Intended to Create a Vulgar Film"

As anticipation mounts for the release of ‘Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire’ on December 22, director Prashanth Neel, along with actors Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, engaged in an insightful conversation with director SS Rajamouli. Amidst discussions about the film’s narrative and character arcs, Neel addressed the certification and creative choices behind ‘Salaar.’

Responding to the film receiving an ‘A’ certificate, Neel conveyed his original intention, highlighting that the portrayal of violence wasn’t the primary focus. “This story revolves around Deva and Vardha, depicting a core drama,” Neel explained, emphasizing that despite the setting in the lawless Khansar, the film’s essence lies beyond its violent backdrop. He expressed disappointment at the certification, citing the necessity of certain cuts requested by the censor board, despite his intentions to avoid excessive violence. Neel affirmed, “I didn’t make a vulgar movie. The violence in the film serves a purpose.”

Addressing speculation regarding similarities with his previous venture ‘KGF’ in terms of the color palette, Neel clarified that the resemblance was unintentional. He emphasized that ‘Salaar’ stands distinct from ‘KGF’ and reiterated that the similarity in visual tones wasn’t a deliberate choice but a reflection of his desire to depict the dark and gritty world inhabited by the characters. The director humorously admitted his unintentional obsession with monochrome, a trait that even led to discussions about shades of black among the cast.

‘Salaar’ unfolds in the tumultuous city of Khansar, depicting a power shift that prompts Vardha to seek aid from his childhood friend, Deva, portrayed by Prabhas. Alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shruti Haasan, and Jagapathi Babu in pivotal roles, the film promises an intriguing narrative complemented by Ravi Basrur’s musical score.

Scheduled for release on December 22, ‘Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire’ presents a gripping narrative set against a backdrop of shifting power dynamics, promising audiences an immersive cinematic experience.

As discussions unravel the depth of the film’s storytelling and creative choices, fans eagerly anticipate the unveiling of ‘Salaar,’ poised to witness the director’s vision and the actors’ performances in this highly anticipated cinematic venture.
