“Jawan,” the high-octane action film helmed by director Atlee and starring Shah Rukh Khan, Nayanthara, and Vijay Sethupathi, has taken the Indian box office by storm. In a remarkable feat, the film has soared past the ₹500 crore mark in domestic collections within just 13 days of its release, making it one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of all time.
“Jawan” opened to packed theaters on Janmashtami, September 7, and witnessed an astonishing ₹75 crore in earnings on its very first day. Its momentum continued to surge, culminating in a staggering ₹80 crore collection on a single Sunday, marking its highest daily revenue. By the end of its first week, the film had raked in ₹389 crore, and now, before completing its second week, it has comfortably crossed the ₹500 crore milestone, amassing a total of ₹507.88 crore at the domestic box office.
This box office achievement places “Jawan” in the elite ranks of Hindi cinema. It currently stands as the fourth highest-grossing Hindi film in India, trailing only “Pathaan,” “Baahubali: The Conclusion,” and “Gadar 2.” Impressively, “Jawan” has even surpassed the Hindi collection of the highly anticipated “KGF Chapter 2.” Furthermore, at the global box office, the film has amassed a remarkable ₹883 crore in total gross revenue, a testament to its widespread popularity.
Directed by the acclaimed Atlee, “Jawan” marked the Hindi film debut of South Indian superstar Nayanthara. Alongside Shah Rukh Khan, the film boasts an ensemble cast featuring Deepika Padukone in an extended cameo, Sanjay Dutt in a brief appearance, as well as Priyamani, Sanya Malhotra, Ridhi Dogra, Lehar Khan, Girija Oak, and Sanjeeta Bhattacharya.
The success of “Jawan” adds another feather to Shah Rukh Khan’s cap in what has already been a remarkable year for the Bollywood icon. With the success of “Pathaan” and now “Jawan,” Shah Rukh Khan has proven once again why he is considered one of the industry’s biggest stars. Speaking at the celebration of “Jawan’s” success, he mentioned, “We started on January 26, Republic Day (with Pathaan), then on Janmashtami we released Jawan, now New Year and Christmas are round the corner, we will release Dunki. I keep National integration. Anyway, when my film is released, it is Eid.”
“Jawan’s” meteoric rise at the box office showcases the enduring appeal of Shah Rukh Khan and the exceptional storytelling by director Atlee, solidifying the film’s position as a blockbuster hit in the Indian film industry.
