The title Washing Powder Nirma immediately brings back memories of one of India’s most iconic advertising jingles. For generations, the name has been associated with nostalgia, childhood memories, and a tune that became a part of everyday life. Interestingly, director Tejaswini S Srinivasapura uses that familiar title as the starting point for a completely different story. Released on YouTube by Daali Pictures and produced by Kreeatma Studios, the Kannada short film follows the world of a cheerful little girl and her mother, gradually unfolding into an emotional narrative that goes beyond what audiences may initially expect from its playful title.
At the centre of the film is Baby Kiyara Tharak, whose natural screen presence adds warmth and innocence to the story. Her interactions with Kshema Shetty, who plays her mother, form the emotional core of the film. Rather than relying on dramatic twists or loud storytelling, the film focuses on simple moments and relatable emotions, allowing viewers to connect with its characters in a genuine way.
Writer-director Tejaswini S Srinivasapura deserves appreciation for building a story out of ordinary surroundings and everyday experiences. The narrative takes familiar elements from daily life and transforms them into a meaningful cinematic experience. Supporting this vision is Kreeatma Studios, which continues to back original Kannada content and emerging creative voices.
Visually, cinematographer Shivachar captures the innocence and charm of the film’s world with pleasing imagery, while Aparajith Sris’ background score subtly enhances the emotional mood. The editing by Abhishek V keeps the narrative engaging throughout, and the contributions of the technical team help create a polished viewing experience.
With a memorable title, a heartfelt story, and a charming performance by Baby Kiyara Tharak, Washing Powder Nirma adds another noteworthy chapter to the growing space of Kannada short films on digital platforms.
