The box office success of Amar Kaushik’s horror comedy Stree 2 continues to soar, with the Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao-led film now surpassing Pathaan to become the second highest grossing Hindi film in India. According to Sacnilk, the film achieved this milestone on Sunday, just a day after overtaking the Hindi version of SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017) to claim the third spot.
Stree 2 Surpasses Pathaan
Stree 2 brought its total domestic box office collection to ₹516.25 crore nett on Saturday, beating the Hindi version of Prabhas-starrer Baahubali 2 to become the third highest-grossing Hindi film in India. The only two films ahead of it were Shah Rukh Khan’s blockbusters from last year, Jawan and Pathaan.
However, the film’s success didn’t stop there. On Sunday, Stree 2 added another ₹10 crore to its earnings, bringing the total to approximately ₹527 crore nett. This allowed it to surpass Pathaan, which had earned ₹524.53 crore nett, thus becoming the second highest-grossing Hindi film in the country. Despite this impressive achievement, Stree 2 still has a long way to go to claim the top spot. The Hindi version of Jawan currently holds that position with a domestic box office collection of ₹582.31 crore nett.
Lack of Competition Boosts Stree 2’s Box Office Performance
For the past few weeks, Stree 2 has been dominating the box office without any significant competition. Kangana Ranaut’s much-anticipated directorial debut, Emergency, which was set for release on September 6, was delayed due to certification issues with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). However, Stree 2 is expected to face fresh competition soon, with Hansal Mehta’s investigative thriller The Buckingham Murders, starring Kareena Kapoor, set to release on Friday, September 13.
