Ajith Kumar and Trisha Krishnan’s latest action thriller Vidaamuyarchi, directed by Magizh Thirumeni, continues its theatrical run with a steady box office performance. Released on Thursday, the Tamil adaptation of the 1997 American film Breakdown has received mixed reviews but is inching closer to the ₹50 crore mark in India.
Box Office Performance
According to Sacnilk, Vidaamuyarchi earned approximately ₹10.52 crore net in India on its third day, bringing its total domestic earnings to ₹46.77 crore net. Despite an impressive opening day collection of ₹26 crore, the film saw a sharp 60.58% decline on Friday, collecting ₹10.25 crore.
On the global front, Vidaamuyarchi amassed ₹66 crore within its first two days, including ₹22.10 crore from international markets. On Saturday, the film recorded an occupancy rate of 32.92% in morning shows and 44.42% in the afternoon, indicating positive audience interest over the weekend.
Trisha Shares BTS Moments
Trisha Krishnan, who stars in the film, took to Instagram to share behind-the-scenes footage from the shoot. Calling it “one of the best rides” of her career, she expressed gratitude to the entire Vidaamuyarchi team. Trisha also attended the first-day, first-show screening at a single-screen theatre in Chennai alongside co-star Regena Cassandra and other crew members.
About the Film
Set in Azerbaijan, Vidaamuyarchi follows a man’s desperate rescue mission after his wife is kidnapped by a ruthless gang. Unlike Ajith Kumar’s usual mass-action roles, the film presents him in a more grounded, emotional performance.
The Hindustan Times review describes Vidaamuyarchi as a departure from conventional star-driven Tamil films, calling it “the story of an ordinary man who loves his wife and wants to save her.”
With strong overseas numbers and steady weekend collections, Vidaamuyarchi is well on its way to crossing the ₹50 crore mark, cementing its place as one of the notable Tamil releases of the year.
