Rajinikanth’s latest film Vettaiyan is showing no signs of slowing down at the box office. On its third day, the action-packed drama raked in an impressive ₹26 crore across all languages, bringing its total collection to ₹81.7 crore, according to a report by Sacnilk. Released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada, the movie continues to perform strongly, with 63.81% occupancy in Tamil theaters on its first Saturday alone.
Directed by TJ Gnanavel, Vettaiyan tackles social issues such as encounter killings and corruption in the education sector. The film is also significant for marking Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan’s debut in Tamil cinema, making it a major event for fans across India. Alongside Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan, the movie features a star-studded cast including Manju Warrier, Kishore, Ritika Singh, Fahadh Faasil, and Rana Daggubati in key roles.
Amitabh Bachchan’s Emotional Message for Rajinikanth
Though Amitabh Bachchan couldn’t attend the audio launch of Vettaiyan in Chennai, he sent a heartfelt video message reminiscing about his experience working with Rajinikanth. He shared a nostalgic story from the sets of their 1991 film Hum, recalling Rajinikanth’s humble nature. Big B expressed admiration for his co-star, saying, “Rajini slept on the floor during breaks while I rested in my AC vehicle. Watching his simplicity, I stepped out and joined him outside.”
Amitabh Bachchan also expressed his excitement about working with Rajinikanth again after 33 years, calling the Tamil superstar the “supreme of all stars.” He said, “Vettaiyan is my first Tamil film, and I’m truly honored to share the screen with Rajinikanth once more.”
Competition at the Box Office
Despite tough competition from Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, starring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri, and Jigra, featuring Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina, Vettaiyan has held its own since its release on October 11. The film has captivated audiences with its thrilling plot and powerful performances, and its box office success seems set to continue in the coming days.
Pan-India Success
Produced by Subaskaran Allirajah under Lyca Productions, Vettaiyan has cemented itself as a pan-India project, appealing to audiences across multiple languages and regions. With Rajinikanth’s massive fanbase and Amitabh Bachchan’s much-anticipated Tamil debut, the film is expected to continue its dominance at the box office.
As the action-drama heads into its first full week, all eyes are on Vettaiyan to see if it can maintain its momentum and join the ranks of Rajinikanth’s previous blockbusters. Fans are eager to see how the film fares against its competitors in the days ahead.
