Weeks after the controversy surrounding Ranveer Allahbadia, comedian Tanmay Bhat took a dig at the podcaster in his latest meme video, titled Memes Got Latent, on YouTube. The video, a spoof of India’s Got Latent, saw Tanmay and his panelists roast Ranveer, revealing that he has not responded to messages ever since the controversy erupted.
Tanmay Bhat was joined by comedians Rohan Joshi, Kaustubh Agarwal, Piyush Sharma, Kushagra Srivastava, and Ravi Gupta. At the start of the show, Tanmay read out a comment from a viewer referencing Ranveer’s viral moment. The comment read, “Tanmay, would you rather continue doing reaction episodes or bring Ranveer once and end it?”—a clear jab at Ranveer’s infamous question from India’s Got Latent.
As the panelists burst into laughter, Tanmay responded, “Actually, just two weeks before this whole thing happened, I texted Ranveer saying, ‘Sun naa, aake fitness meme pe react karte hain’ (Listen, come and react to fitness memes with me). But he’s not replying these days, don’t know what’s going on.”
Ranveer Allahbadia’s Controversial Comment
For context, Ranveer Allahbadia landed in trouble after making a controversial remark on India’s Got Latent. He had asked a contestant, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?” The statement sparked massive backlash, with social media users criticizing him for crossing the line. Several police complaints were also filed against him.
Legal Trouble for Allahbadia
Following the controversy, the Assam Police registered a case against Ranveer Allahbadia, along with fellow content creators Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, and Samay Raina. The National Commission for Women (NCW) also summoned them to appear on February 17. However, due to safety concerns and logistical issues, many did not attend in person. Ranveer Allahbadia requested a three-week postponement, citing death threats, and his hearing was rescheduled for March 6.
Allahbadia’s Apology
Amid the uproar, Ranveer Allahbadia issued a public apology. In a video message shared on X (formerly Twitter), he admitted his mistake, stating, “I shouldn’t have said what I said on India’s Got Latent. I’m sorry… My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it was not even funny. Comedy is not my forte, I am just here to say sorry.”
