Fans are buzzing with excitement for the release of Stree 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2018 hit Stree. The film, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, is set to hit theaters on August 14, with advance bookings already showing impressive figures.
According to a Sacnilk.com report, Stree 2 has amassed over ₹37 lakh in advance bookings for its opening day. As of now, 9,731 tickets have been sold across 2,008 shows, grossing ₹37.58 lakh in Hindi. The makers of the film, Maddock Films, announced on Saturday that advance booking has officially opened, generating significant buzz on social media.
The film’s release is slated for Independence Day eve, with night shows commencing from 9:30 pm. Maddock Films promoted the film with the message: “Woh Stree hai, woh kuch bhi kar sakti hai (She is Stree, she can do anything)! Isilye woh aa rahi hai ek raat Pehle (So she is coming a night early), just for you. Stree2, the legend returns on Independence Day eve, with night shows from 9:30 pm onwards on 14th August 2024.”
Stree 2 continues the story from the original Stree, which was set in the fictional town of Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh. The film followed an evil spirit named Stree who abducts men during the festival season, drawing inspiration from the urban legend of Nale Ba that became popular in Karnataka in the 1990s. The sequel promises to bring back the spine-chilling blend of horror and comedy, with the return of key cast members including Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana.
Directed by Amar Kaushik, Stree 2 is produced by Dinesh Vijan under the banner of Maddock Films, with Jyoti Deshpande from Jio Studios also involved in production. The film is part of Maddock Films’ horror-comedy universe, which includes other notable titles such as Bhediya and Munjya.
The release of Stree 2 will face competition from several other major films scheduled for Independence Day. These include Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein, John Abraham’s Vedaa, Vikram’s Thangalaan directed by Pa Ranjith, and Puri Jagannadh’s Double iSmart, featuring Ram Pothineni and Sanjay Dutt.
