As Shilpa Shetty celebrates nearly three decades in the film industry since her memorable debut in ‘Baazigar’ (1993), she is set to return to the silver screen with a powerful titular role in ‘Sukhee.’ The trailer, released on Wednesday, gives audiences a glimpse of her captivating performance as a rebellious homemaker.
In ‘Sukhee,’ Shilpa Shetty steps into the shoes of Sukhpreet ‘Sukhee’ Kalra, a 38-year-old Punjabi housewife whose life revolves around her duties as a wife, mother, and caregiver to her ailing father. The trailer begins by highlighting Sukhee’s monotonous daily routine until a chance online invitation to her school reunion changes everything.
Sukhee’s decision to attend the reunion sparks a wave of rebellion, as her husband tries to dissuade her from what he dismissively refers to as “aiyashi” or extravagance. Unfazed by his disapproval, Sukhee embarks on a journey to Delhi, leaving her husband to navigate the challenges of the kitchen on his own.
The film explores themes of empowerment, self-discovery, and the resurfacing of Sukhee’s inner desires. She transforms from a dutiful wife and mother into a woman who rediscovers her identity, all within the span of seven days.
The heartwarming synopsis of ‘Sukhee’ reads, “In every woman, there is a Bedhadak, Besharam, Beparwah, and Sukhee hidden, and this film invites you to reconnect with yourself.” It promises a light-hearted, slice-of-life narrative that resonates with audiences on a deeply personal level.
‘Sukhee’ boasts a women-led team with Sonal Joshi as the director, Radhika Anand as the story writer, and Paullomi Dutta as the screenplay writer. Co-produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series and Vikram Malhotra’s Abundantia Entertainment, the film is set to hit cinemas on September 22, offering a captivating journey of self-discovery and empowerment, led by the talented Shilpa Shetty.
