Renowned rapper and music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has issued a public apology in response to a recently surfaced hotel surveillance video showing him physically assaulting his then-girlfriend Casandra Ventura in 2016. The video, which has sparked widespread outrage, depicts Combs engaging in violent behavior towards Ventura, corroborating allegations made against him in civil lawsuits characterizing him as a violent sexual predator.
In a statement posted on Instagram, Combs expressed remorse for his actions, describing his behavior in the video as “inexcusable.” He disclosed that he sought professional help, including therapy and rehab, following the incident, and stated his commitment to personal growth, pledging to be “a better man each and every day.”
The disturbing footage, published by CNN, captures Combs hitting, dragging, and kicking Ventura, also known as Cassie, prompting renewed scrutiny of the allegations made against him. Ventura’s recent lawsuit accused Combs of subjecting her to coercion through physical force and drugs over a decade, including an alleged rape in 2018.
Douglas Wigdor, Ventura’s lawyer, issued a statement condemning Combs’ actions in the video as confirming “disturbing and predatory behavior.” The lawsuit filed by Ventura last fall, which was settled out of court, was followed by additional sexual assault claims against Combs, further tarnishing his reputation.
Ventura and Combs began their relationship when she was 19 and he was 37, leading to a romantic involvement and her signing with his music label. Combs has previously denied all accusations against him, asserting that accusers were seeking monetary gain.
However, the emergence of the assault video and subsequent apology have reignited public scrutiny and criticism. Meredith Firetog, another lawyer representing Ventura, dismissed Combs’ apology as “disingenuous” and “pathetic desperation,” emphasizing that his actions only came to light after repeated denials were disproven.
The controversy surrounding Combs has escalated further with federal agents raiding his properties earlier this year, signaling a potential investigation into the rapper’s conduct. The ongoing developments have sparked conversations about accountability and the treatment of sexual assault allegations in the entertainment industry.
