Actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu recently opened up about her past choices, acknowledging her shortcomings in recent films while expressing confidence and excitement for her upcoming role in Citadel: Honey Bunny. In an Instagram Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on Monday, Samantha candidly shared insights into her career and revealed that she “might not have done [her] best” in some of her last few films, admitting to making “some mistakes in the past.”
Reflecting on her journey, Samantha revealed, “I made a promise to myself that I’ll challenge myself with every role that I take, each challenge being more difficult than the last one. I agree I made some mistakes in the past, and things haven’t really worked out. I accept failure.”
Taking on Her Most Challenging Role
Samantha’s role in Citadel: Honey Bunny—the Indian installment of the global Citadel franchise—marks a new chapter for the actor. Written by Sita R Menon and directed by Raj & DK (Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK), the series is set to premiere on Prime Video on November 7 and also stars Varun Dhawan. Samantha described her character as “the most layered, complicated, and challenging role” of her career.
“Citadel is something that I am truly proud of, even before its release, just for the fact that I was able to complete the project,” she shared, expressing pride and excitement for viewers to witness her latest work. “I also do believe that it is the most layered, complicated, and challenging role that I have played in my career. But I’m just gonna allow you to be the judge of that,” she concluded with a smile.
Past Film Performances and Box Office Reactions
Samantha’s recent films have received mixed responses. Her 2022 releases, Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal and Yashoda, achieved moderate success. Directed by Vignesh Shivn, Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal also starred Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara, collecting over ₹50 crore globally. Yashoda, directed by Hari–Harish and featuring Unni Mukundan and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, garnered around ₹32.13 crore worldwide.
In 2023, she starred in Shaakuntalam and Kushi, both of which had varied outcomes at the box office. Shaakuntalam, directed by Gunasekhar, struggled to meet commercial expectations, earning just ₹11 crore globally. On the other hand, Kushi, directed by Shiva Nirvana and co-starring Vijay Deverakonda, performed better, earning approximately ₹76 crore worldwide.
