Prateik Babbar’s recent wedding to his longtime girlfriend, Priya Banerjee, has been making headlines, not just for the intimate ceremony but also due to the absence of Prateik’s father, veteran actor Raj Babbar, and his family. The couple, who tied the knot on February 14, celebrated the occasion surrounded by close friends and family, but rumors about Raj Babbar’s absence stirred up significant attention.
In a candid interview with Hindustan Times, Priya Banerjee addressed the ongoing speculation regarding her father-in-law’s absence. Priya was quick to shut down rumors, stating, “There was absolutely nobody from the family who was missing from the wedding or our celebrations.” She further clarified, “I don’t know why there are rumors that ‘family members’ were absent. Our families were there, including my parents, his aunts who raised him, his nana-nani, and everyone who mattered and is family was with us.”
Priya’s statement came after Prateik’s step-brother, Aarya Babbar, made public remarks revealing that Raj Babbar and the Babbar family had not been invited to the wedding. In an interview with ETimes, Aarya hinted that someone might have influenced Prateik’s decision, saying, “I presume someone has overpowered his brain too much. He is not wanting to connect with anyone from this side of the family. He has decided not to call anyone.” He continued, “Life is no less than a film; someone in the house is influencing him. I don’t want to think it’s Prateik himself, and I don’t believe he’s like that.”
Despite the absence of Raj Babbar, Priya emphasized that the wedding was a heartfelt and personal affair. The couple chose to keep the ceremony simple, focusing on the people who truly mattered. Priya explained, “We wanted the wedding to describe and give a reflection of who we are as people. We are simple and genuine folks, and that’s exactly how I wanted our wedding to be. There was no other or particular thought behind the low-key wedding. We were surrounded with love and our family and their blessings, what more could you ask for?”
The wedding was held at the home of Prateik’s late mother, Smita Patil, with a limited guest list of close friends and family. Priya looked stunning in an ivory lehenga designed by Tarun Tahiliani, while Prateik wore an equally elegant outfit. The couple’s decision to keep the ceremony low-key was a reflection of their personalities. Priya added, “We didn’t want to be one of those couples who feed a 100 million people at their wedding or those who do it for the world. We wanted to do it for ourselves and the ones who love us.”
Prateik Babbar, the son of Raj Babbar and late actress Smita Patil, married Priya in a ceremony that reflected their desire for simplicity and authenticity. Raj Babbar, after Smita’s death, married Nadira Babbar, with whom he shares two children, Aarya and Juhi Babbar.
