Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s extravagant wedding celebrations have been a global spectacle, drawing admiration as well as criticism for their opulence. Addressing the backlash, Nita Ambani, chairperson and founder of the Reliance Foundation, has now spoken about the grandeur of the festivities in an interview with Bloomberg Television’s Haslinda Amin.
Nita Ambani on the Wedding Criticism
When asked whether the criticism about the lavishness of the wedding bothered her, Nita Ambani responded, “You know, every parent wants to do their best for their children’s wedding. And that’s what we did in all this. I think it was a ‘Made in India’ brand that came out.”
She further emphasized that she was proud to showcase India’s rich cultural heritage through the wedding. “I am happy that I was able to bring to the centrestage our Indian traditions, Indian heritage, and Indian culture,” she added.
A Special Moment That Touched Nita Ambani’s Heart
During the interview, Nita Ambani was also asked about a moment from her son’s wedding that deeply moved her. She recalled Anant Ambani’s long struggle with obesity, which was caused by his asthma, and shared an emotional conversation she had with him before he went on stage.
“My son Anant has been fighting obesity from a very young age because of his asthma. And he went up on stage as a confident bridegroom. He told me, ‘Mom, it’s not what I am physically. It’s what my heart is.’ And when I saw him holding his life partner’s hand, I think that was the most touching feeling,” she said.
