Nicholas Galitzine Cast as He-Man in Upcoming Live-Action ‘Masters of the Universe’ Film

Nicholas Galitzine to Star as He-Man in Live-Action 'Masters of the Universe' Movie

Nicholas Galitzine, known for his role in “The Idea of You,” is set to take on the iconic character of He-Man in the upcoming live-action film “Masters of the Universe.” The movie, based on the popular Mattel franchise, is a joint venture between Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films, scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on June 5, 2026.

“Masters of the Universe” originates from Mattel’s renowned toy line, which evolved into a successful animated TV series and a 1987 film. The story centers around He-Man, a warrior representing the last hope of the magical land of Eternia.

According to the official plotline, the film will introduce a 10-year-old Prince Adam, who lands on Earth in a spaceship and becomes separated from his mystical Power Sword—the crucial connection to his home world of Eternia.

The original “Masters of the Universe” movie featured Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as the villainous Skeletor. However, in this new adaptation, Nicholas Galitzine steps into the role of He-Man, bringing a fresh perspective to the iconic character.

The film is helmed by director Travis Knight, renowned for his work on “Kubo and the Two Strings” and “Bumblebee,” with a screenplay by Chris Butler. Initial drafts were penned by David Callaham, along with Aaron and Adam Nee.

Julie Rapaport, head of film production and development at Amazon MGM Studios, expressed excitement about the project, stating, “We’re thrilled to bring the beloved Masters of the Universe to life and couldn’t be more excited to announce the immensely talented Nicholas Galitzine as our He-Man.”

The production team includes Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch, alongside Mattel Films’ Robbie Brenner, ensuring a collaborative effort to bring this epic tale to the big screen.

Interestingly, “Masters of the Universe” was initially in development at Netflix, but the streaming service dropped the project in July, despite significant investment in development costs. The project was initially meant to star Kyle Allen as Prince Adam, later transforming into He-Man.
