Filmmaker Arati Kadav has responded to the controversy surrounding the trailer of her latest film, Mrs, which stars Sanya Malhotra in the lead role. The film, a Hindi adaptation of the Malayalam cult classic The Great Indian Kitchen, was released on Zee5 earlier this week to positive reviews.
However, ahead of its release, the film faced minor criticism when fans and industry insiders noticed that the names of key technicians were missing from the trailer’s credits.
Arati Kadav on the Missing Credits
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Kadav acknowledged the mistake and called it “a lapse.” She explained that multiple platforms were involved in the process, which led to the unintentional omission.
“It was definitely a lapse,” she said. “There were so many players, and it was a genuine mistake. There were 3-4 platforms collaborating, and when I asked them about it, they admitted the mistake and immediately corrected it.”
Crew’s Recognition Matters
Kadav emphasized that she has a strong bond with her team and that the mistake was rectified quickly. She stated, “I have a very, very nice relationship with the crew. We have a vibrant WhatsApp group, and we discussed this issue. I’m happy that the crew is getting their due credit.”
She also highlighted that many debutants worked on the film, making it especially important for them to see their names on the credits.
Lessons for the Industry
The Cargo director hopes that this incident serves as a lesson for other production houses and streaming platforms to ensure proper recognition for technicians and crew members.
“A film is about invisible work. The recognition should start from the trailer itself. This was a tough film to make, almost like a microsurgery, and the crew did it with such love and care. I hope that, like us, all platforms ensure that their crews receive proper credit in the future,” she added.
