Akshay Kumar’s latest release, Kesari Chapter 2, is showing strong growth at the box office, building momentum as it heads into its third day of screenings. The historical drama, which also stars R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday, has impressed audiences with its consistent performance since its release.
After an encouraging start, the film concluded its opening weekend on a high note, collecting Rs 12.25 crore on Sunday alone. This brings its total nett collection in India to Rs 29.75 crore by the end of Day 3. The first two days had already brought in Rs 17.92 crore, according to Sacnilk.
While the numbers mark a significant improvement over Akshay Kumar’s previous films like Khel Khel Mein and Sarfira, they still fall short of his earlier hit, Sky Force, which grossed over Rs 60 crore in its first three days. Kesari Chapter 2 also trails behind Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, but has managed to perform better than Khel Khel Mein and Sarfira.
Despite not surpassing the performance of the original Kesari (2019), which earned Rs 56.56 crore during its opening weekend, Kesari Chapter 2 has shown a solid upward trend. The film recorded an overall occupancy rate of 32.23% across 3,992 shows nationwide on Sunday. The highest occupancy rates were observed in Chennai at 72.25% across 47 shows, followed by Hyderabad with 46.25% for 156 shows, and Bengaluru, which achieved 43.50% occupancy across 269 shows. Mumbai recorded a more modest 28.75% occupancy across 796 shows, while Delhi-NCR saw 35.25% occupancy across 950 shows.
Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story Of Jallianwala Bagh, directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, is produced by Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective, and Cape Of Good Films. The film features Akshay Kumar in the role of C. Sankaran Nair, a legendary lawyer, and explores the dark chapter of India’s colonial history — the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of April 13, 1919. The film delves into the untold story behind the massacre, which occurred when British officer Brigadier General Reginald Dyer ordered his troops to open fire on a peaceful crowd protesting against the Rowlatt Act. The tragic incident led to the deaths of hundreds, with estimates suggesting over 500 casualties.
Kesari Chapter 2 is set against the backdrop of this tragic event, which remains one of the most painful chapters in India’s struggle for independence. The film’s budget is reported to be Rs 150 crore, and it promises to be a poignant portrayal of a significant moment in history. Joining Akshay Kumar in the cast are R Madhavan, Ananya Panday, Alexx O’Nell, and Regina Cassandra in pivotal roles.
As the film moves into its second week, it will be interesting to see if it can maintain its momentum and continue to attract audiences, especially with its powerful storytelling and strong performances.
